Small boutique hotels are newcomers on the Bucharest scene. This one - with only fifteen rooms - is the work of several tasteful Dutch businessmen who have been active in Bucharest for a number of years including opening the popular Amsterdam Cafe (not far away). Located in the midst of the busy financial district and adjacent to the historic Lipscani District just recently pedestrianized, the hotel is perfectly located for access to Bucharest 'as-it-was' in pre-communist times - part old Paris, part rough-edged orient, part modern-day big-city.
UNIQUE APPEAL
If one tires of large hotel standardization, this is an appealing alternative. The narrow building size means a simple functional check-in but smartly designed rooms of which the five front rooms are amply spacious with windows facing the 'beaux-arts' styled National bank building. Appealing is too are the affordable prices even for the large 'business' rooms facing the front.
LOCATION/ACCESS
Located in Bucharest's old, historic inner city, the Hotel marks a transition from a downscale period of neglect to a more recent 'almost-Paris-left-bank' appeal. The local streets are busy, colorful in the diversity of people from lawyers, bankers, delivery people, gypsies, chic new cappucino cafés and local shops (cobblers, wedding dresses, hand blown glass, antiques). Easy to get to by taxi - much harder to find if it's your first time in a rented car. But there are reserved parking spots in front of the hotel.
SERVICE & ORDER
The service is informal but very professional offered by a helpful young staff and an expert hotel manager.
COMFORT
Room comfort is high with superior beds and linens. Rooms are fitted with all that the 'business-traveler' needs: high-speed connections, more than ample TV channel choices, and the now expected flannel bathrobe and bathroom slippers.
CULINARY QUALITIES
There's a small mezzanine coffee shop cafe with an ample menu of normal fare. A perfect casual spot for a business conversation and end of day drink, it looks down on the street and (if you have nothing else to do) an entertaining spectable of the battle ground for parking spots.
