A visitor can experience village life in 'Saxon' Romania by staying a one of several locally managed guesthouses. These are the result of dedicated restoration work by the Mihai Eminescu Trust (London) whose patron is HRH Charles, Prince of Wales. The guesthouses are represented in England by the noted Landmark Trust (UK).
UNIQUE APPEAL
Rustic, uncluttered homes of now departed Saxon settlers, these guesthouses offer guests an opportunity to live unhampered by modern conveniences. The pleasure is in the remoteness and a step back into farming still done by hand and horse power. Foundation staff are available to assist with local tours, rides, or hikes.
LOCATION/ACCESS
The villages are in proximity of Sighisoara about 8-9 hours from Bucharest by car driving north. Several are along narrow dirt roads easily passable by car - but can be either very dusty or very muddy at both extremes.
SERVICE & ORDER
Very clean houses in small village setting. Modern bathrooms but rustic kitchens with all amenities.
COMFORT
These are not intended to be 'hotel' comfort homes. Antique furniture is sparsely arranged.
CULINARY QUALITIES
Ingredients can be bought locally according to seasonal availability. You do your own cooking.
